How To Prepare For LASIK Surgery

How To Prepare For LASIK Surgery

How To Prepare For LASIK Surgery

You’ve decided you’re ready for LASIK surgery, or maybe you’re still considering it. Either way, you’re wondering how to prepare for LASIK. First, you should schedule a consultation to let us assess your qualification for LASIK and discuss your payment options. But as far as the days before the procedure itself, what will it take to prepare for LASIK surgery?

Skip eye makeup

The day before your LASIK procedure (and of course the day of) skip wearing any eye makeup (including creams and lotions). Additionally, it is best to thoroughly clean your eyelashes to rid them of any remaining makeup, bacteria, or debris.

One way to prepare for LASIK surgery is by ceasing contact use.

Stop wearing contact lenses

Contact lenses distort the shape of the cornea, which could cause poor surgical outcome due to inaccurate measurements. You’ll need to plan on wearing glasses in preparation for your procedure. Your doctor will be able to provide a specific time duration, depending on your individual situation and how long you’ve been wearing contacts.

Arrange for a ride home

You will not be able to drive after your surgery. For this reason, you will need to drive you to and from your place of surgery.

LASIK surgery is worth any preparation it may take (which is minimal). For more information about LASIK, take a look at our blog section. Still needing more tips on how to prepare for LASIK? Contact us here  or request a free consultation!

The Luxury Of LASIK

The Luxury Of LASIK

Some of the best things about LASIK are the various luxuries you will experience. It is truly incredible how something as simple as a LASIK procedure can dramatically change your life. So this blog is for all you “blind as a bats” (yes, YOU) out there and the magnificent luxuries LASIK brings!

Being able to see in the morning

Can you imagine rolling over in the morning and being able to see your alarm clock clearly? With LASIK, you can. Go ahead and roll out of bed and be on your way to the coffee pot…WITHOUT stopping at the sink to put your contacts in or grab your glasses.

No more struggling with contacts or glasses

Putting in/taking out contacts is so dreadfully inconvenient. Have you had those nights when you’re so exhausted you just can’t do one more thing? Or those mornings when you’re in such as hurry you don’t have a spare second to put in your contacts? With LASIK, you can say goodbye to the inconvenience of contacts or glasses.

No more eye pain/infections

The majority of eye infections are caused by contacts and improper cleaning. When you no longer need contacts, you reduce your chance of infection! Yes, that means you can lose that “endless allergies” look and get rid of that horrible pain, burning and itching.

Enjoying swimming/sports without vision struggles

Any of us who have struggled with vision problems have lost a pair of contacts in the pool or had to sit out of a physical activity due to glasses bouncing on your face. Don’t do that anymore! Life is too short to not enjoy the little things. With LASIK, you can enjoy sports and activities without the fuss of contacts or glasses.

LASIK savings

We all love a little extra cash. How much do you spend on contacts, lenses, frames, solution, cases, and eye visits (that aren’t an annual exam)? We challenge you to find out. Chances are, you spend about $500-$1500 a year. Well, with LASIK you can keep that cash in your pocket! Of course, LASIK is an initial expense, but after paying for your procedure, you can enjoy that money you would’ve spend on glasses/contact expenses!

Choosing A LASIK Surgeon

Choosing A LASIK Surgeon

Choosing a LASIK surgeon is an important decision. A bad eye procedure can affect your life as much as having a good procedure! But what are some factors to consider when choosing a LASIK surgeon?

Experience

Experience should be a key factor when choosing a LASIK surgeon. It is important to know how long a surgeon has been practicing. You may want to ask questions such as:

  • How many procedures have you done?
  • What is your complication rate?
  • What are your outcome statistics?

Licensing

A LASIK surgeon should not only have a basic license, but should also be board certified by a recognized entity such as the American Board of Ophthalmology. You can check for licensing and certification credentials through the National Practitioner Data Bank.

Consider these things when choosing a LASIK surgeon.

Nature

As obvious as it may sound, it is very important that you get along well with your surgeon. He (or she) can have every certification and license the industry has to offer with a lifetime of experience, but your experience will be much better if you get along with the surgeon you choose. It is important to feel comfortable around your surgeon, so that you are able to ask any questions you may have.

A New Approach

At Eye LASIK Midland, we offer a new approach to laser vision correction, allowing patients to work with the primary eye doctor they’ve known for years.  This means the patient’s optometrist performs all the work preceding the laser procedure, as well as all the follow-up visits. With Eye LASIK Midland, patients receive premium care from all the doctors they know and trust. In fact, your doctor is probably one of the thirty participating optometrists in Eye LASIK Midland.

Cost

We’ve heard it before. “LASIK is so expensive!” We understand. Initially, LASIK is a significant expense. But, think of the savings LASIK can bring! LASIK can pay for itself just by not having to buy contact lenses or glasses anymore. Think about it. How much will you spend these next few years in new prescriptions/contacts/frames/lenses, additional doctor visits, etc.? If you’re like most people, you’ll spend an average of $3000. If that’s the case, LASIK will pay for itself in just a few years! Additionally, your Flexible Savings Accounts (FSAs) may allow use of the funds towards LASIK. Check with your provider to find out more. Don’t forget, at Eye LASIK Midland, we offer special payment options and NO INTEREST financing!

Complications

Like with any surgical procedure, there are risks associated. Some of these risks include double vision, glares, vision changes, and under/overcorrections. Choosing the most advanced technology, as well as a highly reputable facility can reduce the chance of those complications. At Eye LASIK Midland we pride ourselves on offering the most advanced systems, proven to give the best results. In fact, more eye doctors choose Eye LASIK Midland for their own, their family member’s and their patient’s surgery than any other Midland LASIK center

Comfort

Can you imagine waking up in the morning and being able to see? What an incredible feeling! Just imagine not having to think about your vision or how it may keep you from doing something you love (traveling, sports, swimming, etc.) Many people feel uncomfortable in glasses and contacts can cause irritations, allergic reactions, itchiness, red eyes, or burning sensations. With LASIK, you don’t have to worry about these discomforts! Actually, many patients experience better sight after LASIK than they did with their corrective eyewear. Talk about life changing!

At Eye LASIK Midland, we fully believe that if you change your vision, you can change your life. We want to help you experience that life change! Begin by requesting a free consultation with us here. LASIK Recovery

LASIK Recovery

Some people who are considering LASIK may be curious about LASIK recovery. How long does it take? What does it involve? Is the recovery process even worth having the LASIK itself? Like with any corrective procedure, it is entirely natural to be somewhat nervous and maybe even a little hesitant. We’ll put an end to your hesitance by covering everything you need to know regarding LASIK recovery.

During/Day Of Surgery

Most patients do not experience pain during LASIK recovery, however, there may be some slight discomfort. This discomfort may continue during the day of surgery and is similar to having an eyelash in your eye. It is important to avoid rubbing your eyes and to keep them properly lubricated. Discomfort the day of surgery is entirely normal, as it is only a sign of your eye(s) healing. 24-48 hours after your surgery, your doctor will want to see you to be sure your eyes are healing correctly.

Days After Surgery

Most LASIK patients report that their eyes feel fairly normal the day after having their LASIK procedure. Every patient is different, but most patients are happy about the short recovery time they experience. In fact, patients generally are able to return to work the next day after LASIK, or at least within a few days.

What can you expect from LASIK recovery?

Improved Vision

In addition to a short recovery time, many patients experience improved vision immediately following their procedure. However, it is important to understand that the level of prescription that a patient has will affect the patient’s time that they experience improved vision. Patients with higher prescriptions generally notice a quicker improvement than patients with lower prescriptions.

Reward Is Greater Than Risk

LASIK recovery is most definitely worth having the procedure. Of course, like with any surgery, there are associated risks. But most any patient will tell you the reward is much greater than the risk. A life of clear vision is a privilege no one should be denied.
