4 Tips For Your Child’s Eye Health
The first eight years of your child’s life are critical for eye development. It’s important to teach your children the importance of eye health and how to properly take care of your eyes. Check out these 4 tips for your child’s eye health!
- Go Green-Not only is a balanced, nutritious diet good for your child’s overall health and body functions, but it is critical for your child’s eye health as well! Think dark leafy greens (broccoli, kale, spinach) and yellow veggies (squash, carrots, pumpkin) to ensure plenty of Vitamin C and D intake.
- Eye Aware-The best defense against eye disease is early detection. Listen to your child if they complain about eye pain or irritation. Watch for symptoms like headaches, blurred vision, rubbing of eyes, etc. and be sure your child sees an eye doctor twice a year, or as often as recommended by your doctor.

Learn some basic tips about your child’s eye health!
- Protect Against UV Rays-When your child is outside, encourage them to wear a wide-brimmed hat or cap as well as sunglasses. Not only will a hat help to protect their skin, but wearing a hat and sunglasses will reduce the amount of UV reaching your child’s eyes by half!
- Sport Protection-Discuss with your child proper safety procedures before playing sports with high velocity ball action such as tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball and hockey. If necessary, encourage your child to wear goggles or other protective eyewear.
There are a lot of factors involved in your child’s eye health, including genetics, environment, lifestyle, and nutrition. However, using these 4 tips above can help with any risk of eye disease and help your child live a healthy life with clear vision!

You’re considering LASIK surgery, but you’re curious about what to expect after LASIK surgery? After all, LASIK is a surgery and some hesitation/curiosity is to be expected! We’ll look into exactly what to expect after LASIK Surgery.
During The Surgery
To conduct the surgery, your LASIK surgeon will most likely put you under local anesthesia in the form of eye drops. However, some patients may require mild sedation. Anesthesia options should be discussed with your doctor. The surgery itself usually takes about 10 minutes to complete. After surgery, you should plan to have someone drive you home.
What Should I Expect After LASIK Surgery?
Most patients report that their eyes felt fairly normal the day after surgery. However, every patient is different. Your doctor will likely give your protective eyewear that you will be required to wear while sleeping.

What should you expect after LASIK surgery?
Usually, you don’t have to wear the eyewear longer than about a week. Your doctor will give you prescription eye drops to prevent infection and inflammation and eye drops to keep your eyes moist. Even though they may not feel dry, your eyes will be dry and will require the eye drops. These drops may cause a momentary slight burn or blurring of your vision, which is to be expected. Do not use any eye drops not approved by your eye doctor.
Healing after LASIK surgery usually occurs very rapidly, as the eyes are one of the fastest repaired parts of the human body. After LASIK surgery, your eyes may be red and watery. These normal symptoms are just part of the healing process. However, you may feel the urge to rub your eyes, like they’re irritated. Resist rubbing your eyes, and use the eye drops given to you by your doctor. Your vision may be blurry and hazy for the first day, but most patients notice improved vision within a few days of surgery. Some patients even experience improved vision immediately after LASIK surgery.
Specific follow-up appointments after your LASIK surgery varies from one surgeon to another. Typically, you will revisit the doctor for an evaluation 24 to 48 hours after surgery, as well as at regular intervals within the first six months. Most patients can return to work the next day or within a few days. Slight discomfort, sensitivity to light and eye dryness are common healing affects after LASIK surgery. However, if you think you are having any issues, it is important to call your doctor to see if further care is required.

If you have a tax-free Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA), you can use those pre-tax dollars to pay for your LASIK surgery! However, most of the FSAs and HSAs don’t roll over the following year, so don’t lose your contributions!
How do you maximize those pre-tax dollars to pay for your LASIK surgery?
Contribute to your HSA until you reach a certain limit set by the IRS. Contact your HSA company to find out what this limit is, as it is dependent on the plan.
Tax Deduction
Even if you don’t have a FSA or HSA, LASIK surgery qualifies for a state and federal tax write-off because the IRS considers laser eye surgery to “meaningfully promote proper function of the body.”
Additional HSA Note…
Remember, you can spend the money in your HSA on anything you wish after age 65 and you will pay normal income taxes on that purchase. Before age 65, if you spend the money on a non-eligible medical expense, you will pay taxes plus a 20% penalty on that purchase.

If you’re like most people, you have some questions about laser eye surgery, or LASIK. Specifically, how do various laser eye surgeries differ and how do they affect your quality of vision? You’ve come to the right place. Let Eye LASIK Midland answer your questions about the LASIK procedure!
What is “All-Laser LASIK?”
“All-Laser LASIK” is also known as “bladeless LASIK.” During this type of LASIK procedure, a laser keratome is used to cut the corneal flap for LASIK surgery.
What’s the difference in “All-Laser LASIK” and traditional LASIK surgery?
The difference between the two LASIK procedures is simply the method of cutting a corneal flap. “All-LASER LASIK” is a newer method, without the use of a microkeratome, a mechanical device with a blade.
So which do I choose?
The isn’t an absolute agreement among surgeons on which method of flap creation is best. However, when considering both procedures, surgeons often take into account several factors such as quality of vision, history, complications, etc. It is best to meet with your surgeon when choosing which type of LASIK procedure best suits you.
How does “Wavefront LASIK” compare to conventional LASIK?

Your LASIK procedure FAQs…answered!
Wavefront adds an automatic measurement of higher order aberrations, or more subtle distortions, than solely nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism. However, these higher order aberrations only account for approximately 10% of the total refractive error of a person’s total eye. Conventional LASIK increases higher order aberrations.
What is the WaveScan System?
Using AMO Fourier algorithms, WaveScan captures the unique imperfections of each patient’s eye using 100 percent of the available Hartmann-Shack data points for more accurate wavefront error reconstruction. The system provides the highest resolution available for any shape pupil (up to 7 mm), enabling precise, individualized treatment for the broadest range of visual imperfections.
The AMO Wavescan Wavefront System leads the industry for outstanding wavefront acquisition and diagnostic capabilities. Fast and powerful, the WaveScan System delivers unprecedented measurement accuracy, enhancing the precision of the Advanced CustomVue™ procedure.
