The Real Results From LASIK Eye Surgery

A Life Changing Impact

If this incredible LASIK Eye Surgery testimonial doesn’t make you want LASIK yourself, we don’t know what will!

“I had never had clear vision. I had worn glasses since elementary school, after I started complaining about headaches. In all honesty, I had no idea that I couldn’t see, I never knew better. I didn’t realize how blind I was until I was able to see with my new glasses! It was incredible, I could see and I no longer had headaches. My life had changed!

But, as I moved into jr. high and high school, my glasses became a cause for concern. Kids began picking on me for wearing my thick-lensed, wide-framed glasses. Something that had once been a dream come true had turned into a nightmare. Of course, I didn’t have an option for contacts and most definitely not LASIK surgery (the technology hadn’t evolved yet). So unfortunately, my self-esteem was impacted because of my lack of vision.

Clear image of leaves on trees

“My vision was sharp & clear. I noticed the shape of the leaves on trees!”

Whenever I did have the option for contacts, I jumped at the chance. I could now see without the burden (and negative attention) of glasses…to me, it was the best of both worlds! However, after about 20 years of wearing contacts, I began to be inconvenienced with them. Taking them out and putting them back in, while it had become a habit, was burdensome. Even worse than a burden, my contacts would often give me eye infections. So, not only would I be forced to wear my glasses while I had an infection, but I would have red, puffy eyes behind my glasses. Again, my vision problem had created (yet another) nightmare.

I had heard people talk about LASIK Eye Surgery and that it was such a miracle for so many people with vision like mine. After 40 years of eye problems and blurry vision, I began to wonder if this surgery could be right for me. Unfortunately, at the time, no one in my area offered it. So, after being referred by my optometrist, I flew to another city to have the surgery done. The LASIK surgeon informed me that my current vision was 20/400 (severe low vision) and that I was the perfect candidate for LASIK Eye Surgery. I was thrilled, to say the least.

After the surgery, I went back to my hotel room to rest. My vision was blurry, but I was still medicated, so I didn’t think much about it. After sleeping for a few hours, I got up to wash my face and was shocked. I reached to my face to take off my glasses, only to find out I wasn’t wearing them! My vision was this clear without my glasses OR contacts! In fact, the surgeon said my vision had improved to 20/15! Vision this clear couldn’t be possible. I was awake the rest of the night just looking around the room in awe.

I began to notice things like I had never been able to before, leaves on trees, the curves on a coin, letters on signs. My vision was incredible and I was a new person. My only wish now is that everyone could have vision this clear! I’m so happy I made the decision to have LASIK Eye Surgery and cannot begin to imagine my life without clear vision.”

Choosing Glasses For Your Face Shape

Choosing Glasses For Your Face Shape

Which Pair Is Right For You?

Choosing glasses can be a difficult task, given the wide variety of styles and options. Which pair is right for you? Some frames can compliment your face, if you choose the right ones. Let’s look into which glasses are best for your face shape!

Round face-Strong, angular shaped frames are best for round faces. The lens width should be wider than the depth. Frames with upswept corners also look good on people with round faces.

Oval face-A variety of frames can work with an oval face shape. Square and rectangular frames compliment an oval face, because of the line contrast. When choosing frames for an oval face, keep in mind the scale of the frame. A frame that is too large or too small can throw off the natural balance of the face.

So many options and only one face! Which pair is right for you?

Change your look by choosing a frame that accentuates your face shape!

Square face-For a square face, find frames with architectural features, such as browline emphasis or color. Oval and round shaped frames are a good option for square faces, given that they contrast the lines of a square face. Rectangular frames should have softer edges.

Heart face-With a heart shaped face, the key is to find frames to balance the varying width. With a high cheekbone, heart faces can pull off round lenses and a straight frame, not easily worn on other face types.

Rectangular face-With more length than width on a rectangular shaped face, choose frames with a bit of depth to balance the length of the face. Stay away from small, narrow lenses that exaggerate face length. The right frames will add width and break up length.

But The Best Kind…

As you can see, there are many different frame options for each face type. Choosing the right one can accentuate your style and transform your look entirely. However, the best kind of glasses is no glasses at all! At Eye LASIK Midland, we offer a new approach to laser vision correction, allowing patients to work with the primary eye doctor they’ve known for years.  This means the patient’s optometrist performs all the work preceding the laser procedure, as well as all the follow-up visits. 5 Tips For Eye Health

5 Tips For Eye Health

Protect Your Vision

Your eyes are one of the most important parts of your body, through which you see your life. Unfortunately, most people don’t truly appreciate vision until it’s gone. Let’s discuss some ways you can improve and protect your overall vision.

Tips For Eye Health:

  1. Eggs-Eating whole eggs (yolks too!) increases the levels of lutein and zeaxanthin in your body, which contribute to eye health. Eating 2 eggs daily significantly raises the levels of zeaxanthin and lutein without raising LDL cholesterol levels. Scramble your eggs with some spinach for an extra vitamin boost!
  2. Antioxidants-Higher levels of antioxidants have shown to decrease the chance for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The antioxidants protect your eyes by working to eliminate free radicals, compounds that damage cells by eliminating their oxygen supply. The nutrients previously discussed, zeaxanthin and lutein, can be found in dark leafy greens such as kale and spinach. These nutrients, along with vitamins C and E, help to form a macular pigment that filters dangerous rays from the sun.
  3. Seafood-Studies have shown that people who eat at least two servings of fatty fish (salmon, mackerel, trout) are one-third less likely to develop age-related macular degeneration. The fatty acids found in fish are key components of the nerve cells in the retina of the eye. The zinc from shellfish, crab and oysters has also been shown to help prevent AMD.
  4. Blood Pressure/Weight-Increased blood pressure damages blood vessels and increases the chance for developing AMD. The damaged blood vessels hinder blood flow to the eyes, prohibiting protective nutrients from reaching the retina. Losing extra weight may also help, given that excess fat tissue can act as a “sink” for some eye-protective nutrients.
  5. Supplements-While it is always best to get vitamins and nutrients from food first, you may consider taking a supplement if you have any risk for AMD. Your eye doctor can recommend an eye care supplement, containing lutein, zeaxanthin, EPA, and DHA. Even though supplements can be found over the counter, it is important to take it with caution and direction.

Healthy Eyes & Clear Vision

These 5 tips will not only help overall eye health, but also prevention of age-related macular degeneration. Vision is something that should be cherished and valued, so taking care of your eyes should be a priority for people of all ages.

Is LASIK Surgery Right For You?

Are You a Good Candidate for LASIK Surgery?

LASIK surgery has been very successful over the years and the majority of people who have the surgery have been satisfied with the results. After all, the idea of not wearing glasses or contacts is appealing. However, are you a good candidate for LASIK surgery? It is important to know the risks and benefits, as well as the procedure limitations before considering LASIK surgery.

LASIK surgery is most appropriate for people who are any of the following:

  • Nearsighted-seeing nearby objects clearly, but distant objects aren’t as clear
  • Farsighted-seeing distant objects clearly, but nearby objects are blurry
  • Astigmatism-overall blurry vision

LASIK surgery can not only change your vision, but it can change your life. Your overall outlook and disposition can change if you have clear, sharp vision.

However, as with any surgery, there are risks associated. Some of these include:

  • Overcorrection or under correction caused by uneven tissue
  • Dry eyes caused by a temporary decrease in tear production
  • Flap problems from removing the flap from the front of the eye during surgery
  • Vision disturbances such as glares or double vision

The chances for these risks can be increased if you have certain conditions such as certain autoimmune diseases, persistent dry eyes, anatomic concerns, pregnant/breastfeeding, or if your vision is unstable. LASIK surgery should also be reconsidered if you are severely nearsighted, have large pupils, actively involved in contact sports, or if you only need contacts or glasses part of the time.

The results of LASIK surgery depend on careful evaluation of an individual’s eyes before surgery as well as the understanding of the limitations of the procedure itself. An eye doctor can accurately assess your condition and help you weigh the risks and benefits.

Regular or Polarized…how to choose!

LASIK surgery patients enjoy almost immediate beneficial results.  However, it’s still important to protect your eye health from the sun in the days and weeks following the LASIK procedure. The Eye Surgery Education Council states doctors may prescribe or recommend special sunglasses to wear, but protecting the eyes from UV rays is important year-round to preserve your eye health. For sunglass shopping prior to your laser surgery procedure, here are some excellent tips to keep in mind as you browse:

Tips On Choosing The Right Lenses

Polarized and mirrored lenses
-Sunlight is the most dangerous enemy for your eye health, but light glare reflecting off water, snow, glass or cement pavement can also do damage to your eyes and your vision. That’s why polarized lenses, which greatly reduce glare, are a wise and prudent purchase advised by the Glaucoma Research Foundation. Polarized sunglasses are particularly useful for active individuals who spend a lot of time outside, or near bodies of water, particularly during the bright summertime.

Dark lenses are better lenses-
Even with polarized sunglasses, everyone needs sunglasses that will protect eyes from UV radiation. As a rule, darker colored lenses are better. When testing out a pair, wear the glasses indoors and stand in front of a mirror. If your reflection can be seen clearly in the mirror, you should buy much darker lenses than the glasses you are trying on.

How many do I need?
-Most  people actually have more than one pair of sunglasses, which can be good for your eye health! For example, the darkest lenses may be ideal for a day spent at the beach, but when you’re driving, you might want something that is a little clearer in true vision. You can also consider having an extra pair to keep just in case you accidentally leave your favorite pair behind.

Be Selective
-The quality and eye health safety of sunglasses should be at the top of your mind when searching for a pair of sunglasses. However, if you pick out glasses that don’t suit your personal style and look, you’ll be unlikely to wear them as you should, increasing the chance for UV exposure. In addition to finding glasses that block out UV radiation and cut down on glare, look for a pair of frames that flatter your face and go with your overall look.

Evaluate Your Needs

In the sunglass selection, choices are endless. One important decision is whether to get polarized or regular sunglass lenses. Evaluate your needs for sunglasses carefully. Too much unprotected exposure to sunlight causes vision problems such as cataracts and other unforgiving eye diseases.

Polarized lenses protect eye health and are better at blocking glare from sunlight, snow, glass, water or metal. Polarized lenses may eliminate glare, but since they cost more than regular sun lenses, people hesitate. Generally the cost is $20 to $60 more for the same sunglass style in polarized lenses. For people who have had LASIK surgery, or if they work, live or play near the water or on snow slopes or even if you are around glaring cement pavement daily, it is worth the price to conserve eye health.

Therefore, ask not just which is better for eye health, but which is better for your life and the activities you’re involved in. If you’d like more information on your eye health, or if you’re wondering if LASIK can help you, contact us HERE!
