Halloween is a little over a week away, and while candy and costume planning may be everyone’s first priority, we should all keep in mind some important Halloween safety tips! Check out our tips for Halloween safety:

Check out our tips for Halloween safety!
- Always choose flame resistant costumes and accessories. This can be confirmed by looking at the tag on the costume.
- Be sure that any accessories your child carries (swords, canes, sticks, wands, etc.) are not too long or too sharp.
- Ensure your child’s shoes fit well and their costumes are not too long, to prevent tripping.
- Add reflective tape to dark costumes.
- Pay close attention when walking past driveways and through intersections.
- Masks can limit eyesight, so consider using non-toxic makeup or a hat to achieve the same look as wearing a mask.
- Carry flashlights with fresh batteries (glow sticks are fun, too).
- Teach your child the best contact phone number for a parent or friend and that they know their home address, in case they get lost.
- Halloween is a great time to refresh your children on the concept of strangers. Be sure your child knows not to talk to anyone they don’t know. (And definitely doesn’t enter anyone’s home.)
- Remind your child to not eat any candy before an adult checks it.
- Don’t let your child trick-or-treat alone. Be sure that if they don’t go with you, they are going with another trusted adult.

We love hearing different “I need LASIK” stories.
You know, those moments that make you say to yourself, “That’s it. I need LASIK.”
Take a look at Cameron’s story…
“I had always humored the idea of having LASIK. However, I always had something else to spend the money on. Until one day.
I am naturally a very “cost effective” person. Some may call it “cheap” or “frugal,” but I refer “cost effective.” Unfortunately, this cost effectiveness often led me to wearing my contacts way too long. My mentality was “They’re so expensive. I bet I can get another few days out of this pair!” Well, those “another few days” typically turned into another few weeks. (I know, I’m ashamed.)
I never would replace my contacts until my eyes were in physical pain. My friends and family always knew when it was time to replace them because I would scratch and blink my eyes until I looked liked I had some crazy disease. Unfortunately, I had the moment (you know, that “I need LASIK” moment), at one of the coolest experiences of my life…

Don’t let an awesome life experience be ruined by poor vision.
My friend had a suite at a Cowboys game last October. I was so excited! However, after getting there, I got to be the person who enjoyed the game from the TV screen in the suite. My eyes were hurting so bad that I had to take my contacts out almost as soon as we got there. Of course, I didn’t have my glasses, so it left me barely able to see. The next week, I booked a LASIK consultation.
LASIK is one of the best decisions I ever made. It has literally changed my life (cliché, but so true). I don’t have to sit out of awesome experiences or be inconvenienced with contacts or glasses. And better yet, I don’t have to pay for them!”
If your story is all too relatable, we would love to put you on the path to clear vision today! Request a free consultation here!

Did you know October is eye injury prevention month?
Protecting your eyes is one of the most basic things you can do to prevent eye injuries. But when eye injuries do happen, how do you recognize them and what do you do? Find out how to not only prevent eye injuries, but also recognize them!
Wearing protective eye gear can prevent up to 90% of all eye injuries. Most eye injuries happen around the house, so wear eye protection whenever you can (mowing the lawn, working with tools, sun exposure, etc.) Eye protection is the best way to prevent an eye injury.
However, if an eye injury does occur, it is very important to see an ophthalmologist immediately, even if you think the injury is minor. Do NOT rub your eye or try to remove something you may think is causing the injury. Do not rinse your eye unless you may be suffering from a chemical burn.

Prevent eye injuries this month!
There are several ways to know if you or someone you know is suffering from an eye injury:
- Unusual pupil size
- One eye is moving slower than the other
- Obvious trouble seeing and/or irritation
- The eye is more protruded than the other
- Blood in the eye
Among other things, eye injuries can cause blindness, so they should be treated seriously and with extreme caution. Do not treat an eye injury yourself. More than likely, you will only make the problem worse. Call your ophthalmologist’s office for advice or to schedule a time to see a professional.
At Eye LASIK Midland, we value vision and work to protect and improve your vision. If you would like a free consultation to discuss a LASIK procedure, request one here! Fall is here…can you believe it? Time to put away the sunglasses and beach towels and bring out the pumpkins and scarfs! There is so much to see this time of year, from the changing leaves to the Friday night football games. Why not see life clearly with LASIK?

“Fall” for LASIK this season!
About LASIK
LASIK is your natural vision, just enhanced. LASIK surgery is essentially reshaping your cornea with a laser…it’s a quick, seamless, and effective procedure to naturally enhance your vision. In fact, LASIK has a 96% success rate, meaning 96% of patients achieve at least 20/20 vision (and sometimes higher)!
If you’re considering LASIK, look no further than Eye LASIK Midland. Our approach is different than most LASIK centers. With us, you are able to work with your own optometrist for both pre and post LASIK treatment. Our surgeons perform only the procedure itself, so that you work primarily with the doctors you know and trust. Is your optometrist one of our participating doctors? Find out here!
Sometimes, people are hesitant to get LASIK due to affordability. We definitely understand that and strive to make LASIK affordable for anyone. When to have your vision procedure should be the question, not how to pay for it. We offer interest free financing and financing plans through CareCredit, North America’s leading patient financing system. CareCredit can help you see clearer, sooner. Application is easy! by EyeLASIK | Sep 21, 2015 | Eye LASIK, laser vision correction surgery
If you’re considering LASIK, you may wonder if you are too young/old. While the minimum age for LASIK is 21, you may have some concerns having LASIK at a later age.
Is There A Perfect Age For LASIK?
The easy answer to the question “is there a perfect age for LASIK?” is no. A patient can have laser vision correction surgery at any age and do well provided the eyes are healthy. The main consideration for LASIK surgery is a prescription that has been stable for at least one year.

What is the perfect LASIK age?
This is why the FDA recommends that patients be at least 18 years or older before undergoing the procedure. The growth experienced during adolescence causes constant changes, which includes the eyes. However, there are some teenagers who are good candidates for LASIK because their prescription has been stable for a year or two.
Over 50
LASIK, like plastic surgery, has become more popular with people of the baby boomer generation. Many patients over the age of 50 are now considering laser vision correction surgery because they are very active and enjoy activities such as tennis or boating where freedom from glasses for distance would be beneficial.
There is no reason a patient over 50 can’t have LASIK surgery provided they do not have any signs of diseases such as corneal thinning or cataracts which could cause problems during or after the procedure. A family history of glaucoma or other eye disease also needs to be carefully considered before the patient undergoes treatment. Likewise, the patient needs to be healthy systemically, meaning they should not have conditions such as diabetes that can cause changes in the vision on a day-to-day basis. The patient’s current medications should also be taken into consideration.
Patients over 50 also need to be aware that they will most likely need reading glasses after a LASIK procedure. However, there is the option of being treated with what is termed monovision laser vision correction surgery. With monovision, one eye is corrected for distance and the other is corrected for reading up close.
Consult
When considering laser vision correction surgery, it’s imperative to consult with a surgeon prior to making a decision. Ultimately, it’s up to the ophthalmologist performing the procedure to decide whether or not the patient is a good candidate for surgery, regardless of age. Request your FREE consultation with us!
